24000 Teachers To Be Employed By January 2026

CBE SNIOR SECONDARY PATHWAYS

The Government has promised to employ 24000 teachers by January 2026 besides enhancing infrastructure in schools. 

The president while addressing the residents of Meru insisted that his government is keen on providing solutions among them ensuring children of Kenya access quality and equal education.

• Competency-Based Education (CBC) Transition: The conference addressed the transition to CBC, with particular focus on its implications for senior secondary school programming and delivery.
•\\tEducation Financing & FDSE Crisis: There was disagreement among the members on the wide Free Day Secondary Education (FDSE) capitation lags—some schools owing Ksh 64 billion in arrears—raising alarm over sustainabilies.
• Innovation & Technology Integration: Sessions on how learning can be energized using digital means and innovation—particularly “Gen Z digital skills” and school-based ICT systems.
• School & Health Systems: The Health CS emphasized the strengthening of school health systems under SHA initiatives, with the focus on the leadership in promoting student wellbeing of teachers.

🎯 1. Pathway Structure & School Classification
• Three pathways:
1. STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics)
2. Social Sciences
• Arts & Sports Sciences
• Schools will be classified as:
o Triple Pathway schools that have all three pathways.
o Double Pathway schools that have STEM and Social Sciences or Arts & Sports.
• National schools, that have sufficient infrastructure will all be triple pathway schools.

🗂️ 2. Subject Sessions & Core Expectations
• Every learner will take:
o 4 core subjects: English, Kiswahili (or Kenya Sign Language), Community Service Learning and PE

o 3 optional subjects from their selected pathway.
• STEM pathway subjects include:
o Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science, Aviation, Geospatial Technology

• Social Sciences include (tracks in Humanities & Business (History, Business), Languages & Literature (English, Kiswahili, indigenous languages))

• Arts & Sports Science subjects (Music, Dance, Fine Arts, Theatre, Media, plus Sports Science and Recreation)


🧭 3. Placement & School Selection Process
• In Grade 9, students will:
o Select their pathway & track.
Four (4) preferred (“1st”, “2nd”, & “3rd”) schools (by pathway).

• Placement will be based on:
o Grade 6 KPSEA (20%), School-Based Assessment (20%), Grade 9 KJSEA (60%)

o Teacher recommendations, psychometric information, expressed interests, equity, school quotas.

• Four (4) schools must be selected subject combinations – including one day school, and one public school.
